Monument for non-believers built in Fla. town

STARKE, Fla. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A monument for non-believers now sits in a Florida town.

The granite slab dedicated to atheism lists the punishments for breaking The Ten Commandments outside a courthouse.

New Jersey-based group American Atheists unveiled the bench Saturday as a counter to the religious monument in what's called a free speech zone.

Group leaders say they believe it is the first such atheist monument on government property.

Two hundred people gathered around to take photos on the bench. Most were atheists, but a few protesters attended as well, including a group with signs that said, "Yankees, go home."

The atheists sued to try to have the Ten Commandments monument removed, but dropped the case when they were told they could have similar monument.
