Mom takes punishment to new level after son brings BB gun to school

MATTAPAN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) --A Mattapan mother sent a very unique and public message to her son Tuesday after he brought a BB gun to school.

Andre Robinson's mother was shocked when she learned what her son had taken to school.

"I got a call that my son had a BB gun in his book-bag at school, ran out of solutions, so I thought of this," Shante said, referring to her latest idea.

The idea was for a unique punishment, which she hopes will get through to her son. After Andre returned from school, his mother made him stand on the corner of Morton and Harvard Streets in Mattapan holding a sign that read: "A BB gun was found in my bag at school, honk if I can do better."

"I don't know what to do right now, I ran out of solutions," Shante said as cars drove by, beeping. "So we've been out here for maybe an hour and a half now."

It was a cold lesson that she is hoping will stick.

"I'm out here freezing," Andre said while holding his sign.

He not only had to stand outdoors with the sign, but was also forced to give up his Playstation 3 and flatscreen television.

"We gave it away right here on this corner," Shante said.

Shante went on to say that she was very disappointed in her son, and "let him know that a kid got killed over a BB gun."

"It's no joke, a gun in the school system, is pretty much a real gun," she said.

Drivers passing by were beeping in support of Shante and people at a bus stop nearby took time to stop and talk to Andre.

"I told him, 'Everyone out here believes in you, you have to believe in yourself,'" Shante said.

She told FOX25 that Andre was suspended for days after he brought the BB gun to school. But after this punishment, she's pretty confident that he won't do it again.

We reached out to Boston Public Schools for comment, but they say they do not release information about students.
