Mom: My 4-year-old ate pot-laced Wendy's fries

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A mother who stopped at an Ohio Wendy’s Tuesday evening to get food for her two daughters ended up with something else in the bag.

Dezeray Risner, of Springfield, said she found marijuana in her french fries after her 4-year-old daughter told her mother the fries “tasted funny and were ‘yucky,’” according to a Huber Heights police report.

Risner said her daughter’s daycare is next to the Wendy’s. They were about 10 to 15 minutes down the road when her daughter told her about the fries.

“So I told her to spit it in my hand, (and) I just kind of reached my arm back,” Risner said. “She did and when I looked at it, you could see it. It was chewed up with the french fries. There was the weed in there, the wrap that it goes in or whatever. I freaked out.”

According to the report, Risner called Wendy’s, 7435 Brandt Pike, and the manager said nobody at the store had marijuana. Risner then went to the police department to report the incident.

A Huber Heights officer opened the bag and saw green leafy vegetation mixed with the fries and could smell the strong odor of marijuana from the fries, the report says.

The officer then went to Wendy’s and spoke with the shift manager and three employees. Two of the employees admitted that they do smoke marijuana, and after a consent search, none was found on either one of them.

“I shouldn’t have to check my child’s food for drugs,” Risner said. “That wasn’t professional at all. … My biggest issue right now is to acknowledge it. Apologize. And if it has to go farther, than it will go farther, but that’s not my concern right now.”

There are no video cameras over the food prep area at Wendy’s, the report says.

There are no suspects, and no other information was immediately available.

Huber Heights police say it is unlikely that they will be able to prove the marijuana came from the Wendy’s, but the investigation is ongoing.

Wendy’s has released a statement regarding an incident.

The statement reads in part:

“Please know all of our customers as well as the quality and integrity of our food are a top priority at Wendy’s and we are taking this very seriously. We are currently conducting a thorough internal investigation and the Human Resource and Legal departments are both fully cooperating with police in their investigation. We will get to the bottom of this issue as soon as possible. It is as important to us as it is to the community.”
