BOSTON (AP) — A deal struck between Mohegan Sun and Palmer officials would provide the town with nearly $3 million in upfront payments and more than $16 million in estimated annual revenue if a resort casino is built.
The host community agreement unveiled Thursday also promises infrastructure improvements including an upgrade of a Massachusetts Turnpike interchange near the site of the proposed casino.
The nearly $1 billion plan would also include two hotels and a water park. Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority head Mitchell Etess said it would be "truly transformative" for the small town.
The agreement must also be approved by the town council and by voters in a referendum.
The plan would be in competition with casino proposals in Springfield and West Springfield for the sole resort casino license in western Massachusetts.
