Missing fence allowing dangerous track crossings in Hyde Park

BOSTON — Trains roll through the Hyde Park Commuter Rail stop several times a day and like any train stop, crossing the tracks is very dangerous. But that's exactly what people are doing.

Twitter photos shared with Boston 25 News show two people crossing the tracks at Hyde Park and it's happening because the fence that's supposed to prevent people from walking on the tracks is broken.

Some of the posts don't have any chain link at all between them.

People who live nearby say they see people crossing the tracks all the time.

“The Acela, the Amtrak train; it goes extremely fast and people I think don’t realize how fast this train goes,” Nytasia Feedi told Boston 25 News.

When we contacted the MBTA, they reached out to Amtrak because maintenance of the railroad corridor is their responsibility.

An MBTA spokesperson told Boston 25:

“Amtrak immediately dispatched a crew [Wednesday] morning that took measurements. Repairs will take place [Wednesday night] when fewer trains are traveling through the area, allowing Amtrak workers to make repairs safely."
