• Missing father and son rafters found safe

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — Authorities say they have located a father and son reported missing after they failed to return from a rafting trip in South Kingstown.

Rhode Island State Police say South Kingstown fire and rescue located 47-year-old Darin Pierce and 12-year-old Logan around 11:10 a.m. Monday about a half-mile from where their raft was found along the Chipuxet River. They were reported to be in "reasonably good health" but dehydrated.

Pierce's wife dropped them off around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Taylor's Landing for what was to be a three-mile trip in a 12-foot raft with two electric motors, ending at Worden Pond. She called police around 6 p.m. after not hearing from them.

The Coast Guard and state and local authorities had been searching the area with canoes and a helicopter.
