Methuen man charged with slashing man's throat

HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) - A Methuen man charged with entering his ex-wife's Haverhill apartment and slashing her new boyfriend's throat has been ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

The Eagle-Tribune reports that Angel Rivera was arraigned this week charges of assault to murder while armed and home invasion in connection with the throat slashing last weekend, and also on drug charges connected to his arrest Tuesday. Not guilty pleas were entered. The hearing is next Thursday.

Police say the 35-year Rivera went to the apartment Sunday and used a box cutter to hurt the victim. Police arrived at the scene to the find the victim with a laceration that ran from his Adam's apple to the back of his neck. The man was taken to Lawrence General Hospital. He's expected to survive.
