Menino: If Golar Richie wins, it's 'national news'

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston Mayor Tom Menino had told FOX 25 that he was staying out of the race to replace him, but he may have changed his tune.

Menino told the Boston Herald Charlotte Golar Richie would make "national news" if she won the race.

Richie would be the first African American and female mayor of the city.

The comments are not sitting well with other candidates. City Councilor Charles Yancey told the paper that almost half of the candidates are candidates of color and none of them should be overlooked.

Twelve people are vying to be Mayor Menino's successor.

A primary election is set for Sept. 24.
