Man dies after suffering medical emergency, crashing into Rowley home

ROWLEY, Mass. — A driver lost control and smashed into a house in Rowley.

Thomas Cashman was home when the driver went off the pavement, over the neighboring animal shelter's front lawn and slammed right into his home's foundation.

The driver was heading down Route 133, not far from the I-95 exit, around 2 p.m. Friday when he lost control.

Police say the driver had some sort of medical issue that forced him off the road. A doctor and nurse happened to be passing by when they saw the crash and immediately pulled over to free him from the car and begin CPR.

"Somebody came by with a defibrillator so they put that on him about 3-4 times so then the ambulance showed up and took him out of here," said Cashman.

Cashman says the injured man was breathing before being taken to the hospital. Boston 25 News learned late Friday night that the man, identified as 56-year-old Kevin Hagan, died.

Meanwhile, the damage to Cashman's home is significant. His heating and plumbing systems were damaged, but are still working - though a gaping hole in the concrete will need repair.

Building inspectors checked out the home and said it's safe, but one bedroom isn't suitable for use.

No one in the home was injured.
