Medford residents displaced following early morning fire

MEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Four Medford residents have been displaced following a fire that occurred inside a high-rise building on Riverside Avenue early Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded to 99 Riverside Avenue at about 3 a.m.

According to the Medford Fire Department, smoke could be seen coming from the upper level of the building. The fire started in an apartment on the third floor.

Crews had to evacuate quite a few people as they worked to knock down the fire. Two people were injured, one of the victims suffered burns and was transported to Mass. General Hospital. The other victim suffered unknown injuries.

Residents were brought to a nearby senior center where members of the Red Cross assisted them.

Four people from three units have been displaced, in addition to two cats and a guinea pig.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
