Medford ranks No. 4 in US hottest zip codes list

MEDFORD, Mass. — Whatever "it" is, the City of Medford has it, according to a list just released by Realtor.com.

Realtor.com released its third annual list of the "Hottest Zip Codes in America," which they say "illustrates the power of millennial gravitation toward affordable suburbs with local 'it' factors."

To figure out the "hottest" zip codes, 32,000 zip codes were analyzed based on how long it takes properties to sell and how often homes are viewed. Homes in this year's top ten sell in an average of 21 days, 50 days faster than the rest of the country!

This year's top ten are:
1. Watauga, Texas - 76148
2. Livonia, Michigan - 48154
3. Kenwood, Michigan - 49548
4. Medford, Massachusetts - 02155
5. Littleton, Colorado - 80123
6. Castro Valley, California - 94546
7. Colorado Springs, Colorado - 80922
8. Overland Park, Kansas - 66210
9. Mira Mesa, California - 92126
10. Hilliard, Ohio - 43026

Additional key factors used to determine these markets are relative affordability, large shares of older millennials, high millennial ownership rates, strong job markets and high salaries.

"Once overlooked as a sleepy city northwest of downtown Boston, Medford is now known for its lively dining options, ample recreation opportunities at Wright's Park and along the Mystic River, and the annual Mystic River Celebration devoted to the arts. The area is home to the renowned Tufts University, and the T provides easy public transportation access to downtown Boston. Residents also enjoy a low tax rate compared to other cities in the region."

Two other Massachusetts communities were ranked in the top 50; Mansfield came in at No. 21 and Milford at No. 36.

Nashua, New Hampshire also made the list at No. 38.
