MBTA trolley operator assaulted by man in Halloween mask, officials say

BOSTON — An MBTA employee was attacked at the Cedar Grove Station late Saturday night by a man wearing a Halloween mask and costume, according to transit officials.

The MBTA said a 45-year-old trolley operator was assaulted on the Mattapan line at the Cedar Grove Station after the assailant said he didn't have money for the fare.

The employee was punched in the head and then pulled off the trolley, officials said. Once on the platform, officials say the trolley operated was hit repeatedly in the head and body before the assailant ran off.

Two passengers helped the employee, who was then taken to Carney Hospital for treatment. The trolley operate, who has been with the T for almost two years, was released from the hospital this morning.
