MBTA to update Twitter handle to @MBTA

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – In the coming days, the MBTA's official Twitter handle will transition from @mbtaGM to @MBTA, the MBTA announced Monday.

Current subscribers will not have to take any action to continue following the MBTA's Twitter account, as the name will switch over seamlessly.

"Social media is one of the most important tools we use to communicate directly with those who rely on the T," said MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott. "Simplifying our online identity will help us deliver service alerts and other important information to even more customers."

Currently, the MBTA has over 45,000 followers on Twitter and the MBTA uses the platform to inform followers of service alerts, news and events. Switching from @mbtaGM to @MBTA will help in streamlining the MBTA's online presence and will make it easier for new followers to find the T's Twitter account.

The MBTA encourages its customers to follow the MBTA on Twitter not only to keep informed but to help inform authorities of any issues while riding the system.
