MBTA police superintendant pushes for body cameras

BOSTON — The MBTA police superintendent says he wants his officers to wear body cameras.

Superintendent Richard Sullivan appeared on the Boston Herald Radio's "Morning Meeting" show Thursday to say he thinks the program being tested by the Boston Police Department would work on the T. Sullivan said he would also like to add video cameras in every train car.

The Red Line is planning to replace 86 train cars to increase capacity by about 50-percent, which Sullivan said may make it a good time to implement train car cameras.

The police superintendent said he still has to talk to union executives to approve the idea.

Boston police started their controversial body camera trial last week following repeated delays from the city's largest police union.
