MBTA, Commuter Rail dealing with switch issues as temperatures drop

BOSTON -- Commuter Rail trains at North Station are facing significant delays due to a switch issue, the MBTA said on Twitter.

The issue was first announced around 5:30 p.m. following a number of switch issues throughout the system caused by freezing temperatures and Thursday's nor'easter.

According to the MBTA, the switch issue at North Station impacts all trains arriving and departing.

Earlier in the afternoon, MassDOT Communications Director Jacquelyn Goddard announced the cancelation of trains on the Newbury / Rockport Commuter Rail line so crews could repair the damage in areas where sea water flooded the tracks Thursday.
