MBTA bus driver in Pike crash fired

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com / AP) -- The Boston bus driver who crashed through a guardrail, leaving the front end of her bus hanging over the Massachusetts Turnpike, has been fired, sources tell FOX 25.

In court Tuesday, Shanna Shaw pleaded not guilty to an obstruction of justice charge. She was released after her arraignment in Newton District Court on a promise to return to court.

She did not comment outside of court.

Authorities say the 42-year-old Shaw was holding a cellphone when she lost control of her bus and crashed on May 18, but she at first told investigators she lost control because of a sneezing fit. The MBTA has a policy banning drivers from using cellphones while they are on the job.

She and seven passengers were hurt.

Shaw, who has worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for almost 18 years, was also cited for operating to endanger, speeding and impeded operation.

Her driver's license has been suspended.
