The U.S. Attorney's Office for Massachusetts said 37-year-old Stephen Lehto pleaded guilty Friday to one misdemeanor count of obstruction of mails. He's scheduled to be sentenced in April.
Prosecutors say Lehto worked as a postal carrier for the Fitchburg Post Office between June 2016 and January 2017 and began taking home mail instead of delivering it on his route.
Law enforcement interviewed Lehto after receiving a tip and he allowed agents to search his vehicle, where they found 760 pieces of mail, including more than 340 pieces of first-class mail.
Lehto's attorney declined to comment Friday.
