BOSTON — A Massachusetts native U.S. Army infantryman was killed in a car wreck in Syria, according to a release from the U.S. Military.
SPC Etienne Murphy, 22, was killed in a “non-tactical vehicle rollover,” the Army said.

Murphy was born in Boston in 1995 and enlisted in the U.S. Army while living in Snellville Georgia in 2013. He completed training at Fort Benning and was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment on his first deployment.
According to the Army, Murphy was awarded the Army Commendation Medal after his death.

The president of Massachusetts Fallen Heroes says Murphy's father was a Boston firefighter and his aunt is a Boston Police officer.
