Massachusetts lawmakers reflect on President Donald Trump's first 100 days

BOSTON — As Saturday marks the 100-day benchmark of President Donald Trump’s administration, Massachusetts lawmakers weighed in on what progress has been made so far.

Some of President Donald Trump’s deepest critics include Democrats in Massachusetts.

“President Trump has not had any legislative victories,” according to Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

The senator has been quick to point out his concerns over the President.

Even with Republican control of the Senate and House, the senator said there is a clear reason why the White House has not done more in the first 100 days.

“He still does not understand that he has to work with the Congress, with Democrats if he wants to accomplish big things,” said Markey.

During the campaign, candidate Trump mostly embraced the 100-day benchmark.

When the president took office, he addressed major campaign goals such as repealing and replacing Obamacare, funding the construction for a wall on the Mexican border and passing a plan for infrastructure worth $1 trillion dollars.

None of these goals have happened by the end of the first 100 days.

On Thursday, the president spoke to Reuters and said he thought the job “would be easier.”

The following day, the president went over his accomplishments with supporters in Atlanta.

“We are protecting the freedoms of law abiding Americans and we are going after the criminal gangs that pray on our innocent citizens and we are really going after them,” said the president.

The White House released a list of achievements during the first 100 days, including stopping the military strike in Syria, stepping up immigration law enforcement in the US and nominating Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
