Massachusetts is the smahtest of them all, says ranking

BOSTON — When it comes to smarts, Massachusetts is at the very top of the list.

According to a new study by WalletHub, Massachusetts is the most educated of all 50 states. WalletHub compared educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps for all 50 states in order to come up with its ranking.

In the educational attainment subrank, Massachusetts was at the top and in sixth place for quality of education and attainment gap. Massachusetts has the highest percentage of Bachelor's degree holders in the entire U.S. and the highest percent of graduate and professional-degree holders, according to Wallethub's data.

Considering the fact Boston metro is a college city with two of the most reputable universities in the country, Harvard and MIT, the amount of highly educated people isn't a huge surprise.

The least educated state in the country is West Virginia, according to WalletHub.
