Mass. urges caution on 1st work day since blizzard

BOSTON (AP) — Commuters heading back to work in Massachusetts for the first time since the blizzard are being urged to use caution and leave extra time.

Many secondary roads still have a thick coating of snow, and high snow banks that block sight lines at intersections and near highway ramps make turning and merging hazardous. Parking spots are filled with snow and many two lane roads are down to one lane.

State officials are urging commuters to take public transportation when possible. The MBTA's regularly scheduled service resumed Monday, but some trolley and commuter rail lines were experiencing 15 to 20 minute delays due to signal problems and weather-related issues.

Schools in Boston and many other communities remain closed.

About 110,000 Massachusetts electric customers remained without power Monday morning, mostly on the South Shore and Cape Cod.
