BOSTON (AP) - A Massachusetts town says Mohegan Sun and state gambling regulators are ignoring its concerns about a proposed resort casino in a neighboring community.
Jeffrey Fialky, an attorney for the town of Monson, wrote in a letter to Connecticut-based Mohegan Gaming Advisors and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission that the developer has yet to engage in any "meaningful meetings or discussions" about the potential impact on the town of its proposed casino in Palmer.
The letter says Mohegan Sun and the gaming commission has circumvented the intent of the state's casino law by instead collaborating with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, a regional board. It says that's excluded Monson from a direct role in surrounding community negotiations.
Mohegan Sun said in a statement that the PVCP has invited area towns to participate in an Oct. 9 meeting.
