Thirty-one-year-old Kala Gurung of Watertown plans to spend just over $500 on holiday shopping. She says she's seen more deals this year.

Still, some shoppers are unhappy that Black Friday openings are creeping closer to Thanksgiving Day.

Lizzy Casanave of Arlington and Author Hillary Spector of Newton said on separate occasions that they are unhappy that retailers are turning to "Super Thursday."

Spector plans to spend up to $500, including on designer handbags for her two daughters.
