Mass. political leaders, supporters push for immigration reform

BOSTON (AP) - Immigrants living in Massachusetts and their supporters gathered for a weekend rally in Boston to pile up pressure on the U.S. Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reforms that include a path to citizenship.

Hundreds of immigrants, community activists, representative of workers' groups and political leaders attended a rally at Faneuil Hall on Saturday morning. They planned to march to the nearby federal building that houses the U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Services and the local immigration court after the event.

The rally is one of the first events of the "Power Up for Citizenship" initiative being launched nationwide.

In New England, a similar rally is scheduled for Nashua, N.H., on Saturday and in Providence, R.I., on Sunday.

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III, and other political leaders joined the Boston rally.
