Mass. police car struck at road construction site

HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts police say a state police sergeant parked in his cruiser to protect a road construction crew has been struck by another car on Interstate 495 north of Boston.

Police said Monday night the driver of the other car is believed to have had a medical issue. Both were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Police said the state police sergeant had no visible injuries and was conscious and alert. The driver of the car also was reported to be conscious and responsive.

The crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m. on the northbound side of the interstate south of Exit 51, Route 125.

State police are investigating.
