Mass. man's body found in recycling delivery

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Police are investigating after the body of a 55-year-old Springfield man was found in a load of cardboard taken to a recycling center.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Delaney said he apparently got into a collection bin before the cardboard was taken to Northstar Disposal. Workers found the body of Jose Gonzalez at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Delaney says surveillance video shows the man drinking alcohol behind the Springfield bus terminal at about 4:30 a.m., and then crawling into the collection bin. He said the video shows the truck emptying the bin with the man still inside. Delaney said the truck made several stops before unloading.

Delaney said there wasn't any evidence of foul play. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine if the man's death was accidental or if he died before the truck picked him up.
