Mass. man visited family of woman who died in Cancun before own death

A 49-year-old man from North Attleboro is the third Mass. resident to die while on vacation in Cancun in less than a week.

Friends of Mark Iaconis tell FOX 25 he fell from a balcony at the Golden Parnassus Hotel sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Iaconis was pronounced dead on Monday at a Mexican hospital as a result of his injuries. The Sun Chronicle says his girlfriend and others witnessed the fall.

The fatal incident is under investigation.

Friends describe Iaconis as someone with a great heart, who was always willing to help someone day or night. Many of the 49-year-old's friends began as clients at his business, Iaconis HVAC. They say he was someone you could count on.

Iaconis was staying at a hotel nearly five miles away from two Mass. women who died while on vacation in Cancun last week. He also lived about five miles away from the women in Mass. and knew one of them through his business.

Friends say Iaconis told them he had visited a family member of one of the women on the Friday before he left for his trip. He told the relative to let him know if there is anything he could do to help the family.

Last week, 53-year-old Donna Batta and 54-year-old Gail Binmore of Mansfield died while swimming in the ocean at the Grand Park Royal Hotel in Cancun.

A third woman ran into the hotel to get help, but rescue workers could not revive the women after recovering their bodies.
