Mass. man arrested for crashing truck through Tedeschi's storefront

WEST DENNIS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A West Yarmouth man was arrested early Sunday morning after he drove his pickup truck through the front of the Tedeschi's in West Dennis and fled the scene, police said.

Christopher Sprague, 32, is charged with vandalism to property, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers in Dennis responded to the Tedeschi's located at 964 Route 28 at about 12:36 a.m. after receiving several calls reporting a car had crashed through the storefront and drove away. The car was reportedly inside the building, reversed and pulled forward several times before backing out and leaving.

According to police, at the time of the crash, a patron was standing at the cashier and had to hop over the sales counter to avoid getting hit.

Witnesses told police the suspect vehicle, a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck, fled heading west on Route 28, scattering debris along the road.

Officers from the Yarmouth Police Dept. were called in to help search for the truck. A short time later, police received a call about some debris on Wedgemere Road in West Yarmouth and checked the surrounding area.

During their search, the suspect vehicle was found at a home on Circuit Road East and Sprague was identified as the truck's owner. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

The building at 964 Route 28 which houses Tedeschi's, as well as Swan River Liquors, sustained serious structural damage and has been deemed unsafe by the Town of Dennis Building Inspector. Both businesses have been ordered to close until the building is made structurally safe.
