Mass. lawmakers to hold hearing on gun bills

BOSTON (AP) - Anyone with suggestions on improving Massachusetts' gun laws will get another chance to have their say before lawmakers act.

On Monday, the Public Safety Committee is holding a public hearing at Assumption College in Worcester on nearly 60 gun-related bills.

They include proposals like Gov. Deval Patrick's legislation to tighten access to high-powered rounds of ammunition and require buyers to undergo background checks before buying weapons at gun shows.

Other bills would study whether GPS locators should be put in guns, require gun dealers to collect identifying information from anyone buying bulletproof vests, and create a Gun Offender Registry Board to maintain a centralized computer registry of all gun offenders in Massachusetts.

Not all the bills are aimed at limiting access to guns.

One would repeal Massachusetts' assault weapons ban.
