Mass. Fugitive captured in Florida after fleeing court appearance

NORFOLK, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com)— The Taunton man who allegedly fled the Norfolk courtroom and escaped a police pursuit in April was arrested in Florida on Thursday, Norfolk Police reported.

James Bowen, 50, is a registered sex offender who reportedly ran from court during his court hearing in April. He then sped away from a police pursuit at his home. Bowen was in court for violating his probation connected to his 2001 aggravated rape conviction, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.

Police attempted to track Bowen down around Norfolk for two weeks before asking for state police assistance. State troopers eventually tracked Bowen down in Daytona, Fla. late Thursday.

Bowen is scheduled to return to Massachusetts where he is to face probation surrender proceedings. The date has not been set.
