Mass. electors cast votes for Obama

BOSTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's re-election is about to become official.

Monday was the day the Electoral College casts state-by-state votes for president.

In Massachusetts, the state's 11 electors cast their ballots during an afternoon ceremony at the Statehouse. Obama easily carried the state on Nov. 6 on his way to a victory over former Republican Gov. Mitt Romney.

Once the electoral ballots are tabulated, the votes are sent by registered mail to the president of the United States Senate, the archivist of the United States and the federal judge of the Massachusetts

Nationwide, Obama won 332 electoral votes to 206 for Romney.

Congress will officially count the votes on Jan. 6. Obama is to be sworn in a couple of weeks later.
