BOSTON (AP) — The scandal at a now-closed Massachusetts drug testing lab has spilled into federal court.
A former chemist at the lab is charged with faking test results, tampering with evidence and routinely ignoring testing protocols, putting thousands of criminal cases in jeopardy.
The Boston Globe (http://b.globe.com/166NeWN ) reports that Adam Davila, who was sentenced in federal court last year to 10 years in prison on heroin charges because he was classified as a career criminal, is asking to be released.
Davila has asked that a federal judge cut his sentence based on the chemist's involvement in one of his state convictions. The 2008 conviction of drug dealing was factored into his classification as a "career criminal" in federal court and was used to triple his sentence.
His hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
