Mass. commuters to get much needed updates

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The MBTA is moving forward with a billion-dollar project that will extend the Green Line through Somerville into Medford.

Governor Deval Patrick and other state and city officials broke ground at a ceremony outside the Target on Somerville Avenue on Tuesday.

Governor Patrick says updating the state's transit system is a necessity.

In addition to the Green Line extension, train service from Boston to Cape Cod is being restored for the first time in two decades.

Starting in May, weekend trains will begin running from South Station to Hyannis. The train would stop in Wareham, Buzzards Bay, and either West Barnstable or Sandwich before arriving at its final destination.

The service has big potential to cut back on summer traffic to and from Cape Cod, but the convenience comes at a cost.

Round trip is reportedly going to cost $30.
