Marine Myles Kerr helps boy, 9, finish 5K race in Michigan

CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (WJBK) - Lance Corporal Myles Kerr has become an Internet sensation after an online photograph showed him completing a 5K race in Charlevoix, Mich. alongside a boy who became separated from his group.

The 19-year-old entered The Jeff Drench Memorial 5K with fellow marines, but slowed his pace when he noticed 9-year-old Brandon Fuchs running alone. The Medical Daily reports Fuchs, who was separated from his group at some point during the race asked Kerr, "Sir, will you please run with me?"

Kerr obliged and finished the race in 34:53, five seconds behind Fuchs. It was the slowest time in his age group, according to the Huffington Post.

In response to the photo, Kerr tweeted, "I was just doing what any man would do, but thank you!"

The finish line photo was posted by the Seal of Honor Facebook page and tallied over 200,000 likes and 43,000 shares since Monday.
