Marathon Monday street closures, MBTA restrictions

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Boston Marathon is on Monday, and many streets will be closed due to the race. And if you plan to take the T into the city, there are a few things you should know.

Street Closures

On Monday, all of the streets around Copley Square will be closed at 6 a.m. All of the streets inside of Massachusetts Avenue will be closed at 9 a.m. and all of the streets outside of Massachusetts Avenue will be closed 30 minutes later at 9:30 a.m.

The Boston Athletic Association provided the following street closures, according to boston.com.

• Commonwealth Avenue from Newton Town Line to Chestnut Hill Avenue
• Chestnut Hill Avenue from Commonwealth Avenue to Brookline Town Line
  
• Beacon Street from Chestnut Hill Ave to Brookline Town Line; from Beacon Street through Brookline; from Brookline Town Line to Commonwealth Avenue
• Berkeley Street from Stuart Street to Newbury Street
• Commonwealth Avenue from Beacon Street to Gloucester Street
• Massachusetts Avenue from Beacon Street to Belvidere Street
• Boylston Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Arlington Street
• Dalton Street from Belvidere Street to Boylston Street
  
• Hereford Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street
• Gloucester Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street
• Fairfield Street from Boylston Street to Newbury Street
• Exeter Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Huntington Avenue
• Dartmouth Street from St. James Avenue to Newbury Street
• Clarendon Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Stuart Street
• Berkeley Street from Columbus Avenue to Newbury Street
• St. James Avenue from Arlington Street to Dartmouth Street

• Trinity Place from St. James Avenue to Mass. Turnpike on-ramp

Those attending the race are urged to take public transportation. The MBTA will increase service to “rush-hour” levels before and after the marathon. Bicycles are not allowed on any train Monday. MBTA parking garages will be pay-on-entry and cash only on Monday, according to

For the public’s safety, Copley and Arlington Stations will be closed Monday. Travelers are encouraged to use the Green Line at the Hynes Convention Center, Prudential, or Boylston Street stations or the Orange Line at the Back Bay Station. If you need an elevator, transfer at Park Street station and use the Green Line E-Branch service to the Prudential station. The Green Line stations, South Street, Kent Street and St. Mary’s Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Red, Orange and Blue lines will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
