MANSFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Mansfield High School football captain has been arrested amid accusations that he assaulted another student in the school locker room.
Police say high school officials contacted them about an incident that occurred on March 15. Following an investigation, 17-year-old Alexander Ruddy was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Investigators say a sophomore was assaulted with a belt after gym class. The teen received treatment at the school nurse's office.
Ruddy reported to the Mansfield Police Department on Friday and was subsequently arraigned in Attleboro District Court. The 17-year-old was released on personal recognizance.
Officials tell FOX 25 Ruddy is the junior captain of the high school football team. They say disciplinary action was taken by the school, but they did not clarify on what course of action was taken against the teen.
