In court Friday, Breakspear didn't comment as the assistant district attorney read the series of events.

The ADA said that Thursday police were called to Breakspear's home to investigate a domestic matter between Breakspear and his girlfriend.

When officers arrived, police said he was making threats and had a black rifle slung over his shoulder.

That’s when Breakspear opened fire, police said, and officers took cover.

Breakspear then ended up on the roof of a liquor store in a strip mall called The Village at Nobscot.

Massachusetts State Police used a helicopter to provide support overhead, shining a light on the Breakspear, who had a tactical advantage over the officers on the ground.

It took two hours before a negotiator eventually was able to talk Breakspear down from the roof and the situation ended peacefully.

When he was arrested, officers found a rifle and 120 rounds of ammo stashed near a fence.

According to the ADA Wendi Safron, there are prior criminal conviction on his record, at least 30 in total covering assault, drugs and guns.

The judge ordered a mental health evaluation hearing prior to a detention hearing.
