Man wanted in Hyannis shooting turns self in


HYANNIS, Mass. ( – Barnstable police said a man wanted in connection with the shooting of a 24-year-old man has turned himself in.

Police said that just after 9 p.m. Saturday a man arrived at Cape Cod Hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body. Around the same time, police said they responded to a disturbance at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center and learned the incidents were related.

According to police, Wallace R. Grace III, 19, of Hyannis, and the victim were involved in a confrontation. During the dispute, police said Grace pulled a gun and fired several shots at the victim. Both fled the scene before police arrived.

Grace later turned himself into police and was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon/firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. He will be arraigned Monday.

Police were reviewing surveillance footage from the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
