Man stabbed answering ad on Backpage.com

AUBURN, Mass. — Two people were arrested for allegedly stabbing a man who was answering an ad posted on backpage.com.

The incident was reported Wednesday night in a parking garage at the Auburn Mall.

Police said the victim thought he was meeting up with one man, who he met on the website, but it turns out Eric Collette, 23 and his girlfriend, Ann Delcid, 31, jumped into his car and stabbed him under the chin.

“At some point the transaction broke down and the two people produced knives and tried to steal his wallet,” Auburn police Sgt. Scott Mills said.

The victim said he was so scared he called his daughter, who then called 911, while he was driving himself to a hospital.

"He said two men jumped into his car and stole his credit card and cut his throat," the victim's daughter told 911 dispatchers.

At first, police said, the victim thought it was two men who attacked him, but mall surveillance played a big part in catching the suspects after they were spotted in surveillance footage at the mall.

Collette and Delcid were caught moments later and arrested. Both will appear in court on Friday.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
