Man shot at convenience store in Everett Monday night

EVERETT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man was shot at around 9:30 p.m. Monday night in a convenience store in Everett.

The shooting happened at the Neighborhood Convenience Store in Everett on Main Street. The store's owner, Mohammad Islam, said that his uncle, 66-year-old Mofizur Khan, was shot just before closing the store with his cousin, who was punched in the face.

All the surveillance video showed, Islam said, was two hooded men entering the store.

Emergency personnel took Khan to Mass. General Hospital Monday night, and Islam said he is in fair condition.

One of Khan's neighbors, Lenny Pepper, who knows Khan well said that the 66-year-old tried to fight the suspects off with a stick and that was when the shooting started.

"I went to the back of the ambulance and he was alert, but you know, he pulled through so that's good," neighbor Lenny Pepper said.

Police did not say if a suspect had been arrested.

The store, which Islam bought two years ago, was open Tuesday morning, though a bullet hole is still visible in a window.
