• Man seriously injured when truck smashes into tree

Fire crews in Newton worked to free a man who was trapped in his truck after it crashed into a tree on Beacon Street Sunday morning.

Crews used the Jaws of Life to cut the roof of the truck off to free the man.

Photos posted on the Newton Fire Department's Twitter account showed the tree well into the driver's seat of the vehicle. Another angle showed that the truck's cab was nearly separated from the bed.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Newton Fire Dept. Tweeted a reminder to drivers that they should be cautious on slippery roads and plan extra time when traveling.
