Man receives life-threatening injuries in Boston shooting

A man was rushed to a Boston hospital after he was shot twice in the chest Tuesday night in Roxbury.

Police were called to Mount Pleasant Street around 11 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting. When they arrived at the scene they said a man was suffering from two gunshot wounds to his chest.

He was rushed to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

This is the kind of violence that has the eyes and ears of Boston police Commissioner William Evans and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

Before the shooting Tuesday they met to strategize how to keep Boston streets safe this summer.

They told Boston 25 News that as of Sunday there have been 63 shootings, which is up from the 51 shootings reported this time last year.

While those shootings are described as non-fatal, the concern is access to guns.

“Why does a 16-, 17-year-old need to carry a high velocity weapon?” Evans asked. “I really stress that we need the community’s help to get those guns off the streets.”

The city plans to keep community centers open later this summer, and next week 56 new police recruits will hit the streets of Boston.

They will be assigned to the busiest districts in Mattapan, Dorchester and Roxbury.

Walsh said June, July and August are the busiest months when it comes to gun violence in Boston.

So far no arrests have been made in connection to Tuesday night’s shooting in Roxbury.
