Man killed, woman injured in Brockton double-shooting

BROCKTON, Mass. — A double shooting in Brockton overnight that left one person dead and another injured remains under investigation, according to Mayor Bill Carpenter.

“We do know that one of the victims has passed away as a fatality, the other is considered non-life-threatening,” Mayor Bill Carpenter said. “A male did die of his gunshot wounds, there’s a female with a non-life-threatening injury.”

People had been gathered for a block party near 108 Myrtle St. earlier in the night when the shots ran out. The mayor said the party ended before 10 p.m., and the shooting was reported just before midnight.

Neighbors told Boston 25 News that many of the party goers had moved inside.

Carpenter said it was a targeted shooting, and the man killed has a criminal record. The shooting may have been motivated by social media, coming from those not invited to the party, according to neighbors.

Many neighbors expressed their frustration over the violence.

"This is my house, I bought it, I'm a citizen, I keep my family, my family is good. We don't do this stuff," said Patricia Vicente, who lives nearby.

The people had the proper permit for the block party, the mayor said, but in the wake of the shooting, the mayor said he's suspending all block party permits while the city reviews its policies.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police.
