Man in skeleton mask tries to rob Lowell store at knifepoint

LOWELL, Mass. — Lowell police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to rob a convenience store at knifepoint while wearing a skeleton mask.

The attempted robbery happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pay Less Food Store on Read Street. The convenience store has been hit two other times since Dec. 28.

“The second time they rob them it was 6 o'clock in the morning, they open at 5:30. What can they really get it 6 o'clock in the morning,” customer Jeannette Marquez said.

The suspect in Tuesday's robbery was described as a Hispanic man who was wearing a black sweater and skeleton mask. The man showed a knife and demanded cash from the clerk.

As the suspect demanded the money, a second clerk reportedly appeared and threw a can at him, causing the suspect to run away. The suspect escaped in a two-door car that had been waiting outside.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
