Man hit by car in South Boston expected to survive

BOSTON — A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night after he was hit by a car in South Boston.

Police told Boston 25 News the man was crossing the street around 8 p.m. at the corner of East Broadway and H Street when he was hit. Residents say the main stretch of road can be very busy - and very dangerous.

"This is an area where you're coming up a hill and your visibility is a little bit impaired compared to other parts of the city where it's flat, so it's hard, you have to be on the lookout all the time," said Southie resident Gabrielle Wilson.

The driver of the car stopped and is cooperating with police. Part of the roadway was closed while for several hours investigators worked to understand what happened, but has since reopened.

The victim is expected to survive.

Officials say no charges have been filed.

The incident is still under investigation.
