Man gets ominous warning for tapping cemetery tree

EPPING, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – An Epping, N.H. man said he's received an ominous warning for tapping a maple tree in a cemetery.

Jim McGeough told the New Hampshire Union Leader that he's been tapping a maple tree at the edge of a 12-grave cemetery on Prescott Road for about 10 years with no problem, until the other day.

The paper reports that someone tacked a fake tombstone to the tree with a skull and crossbones and a message: "No Cemetery Syrup. You Sap."

McGeough said he doesn't know who posted the sign in the cemetery.

The chairman of cemetery trustees said he doesn't see anything wrong with tapping the tree in the cemetery.

McGeough said he plans to leave the bucket and sign alone.
