Man fatally shoots pit bull that attacked his dog

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A dog owner in New Hampshire says he was forced to shoot and kill his neighbor’s dog to save his own.

Richard D’Amour says he and his five-year-old dog Molly were going for a walk in their Manchester neighborhood when a neighbor told them there were two pit bulls on the loose.

D’Amour recognized one as a dog named Luigi.

“So, I started coming back this way Luigi saw her and came booking.  He caught up to her on the deck and grabbed onto her and wouldn't let go and thank God the guy over there tried to come and help me separate the dogs,” said D’Amour.

Another neighbor ran to help, but when they couldn’t pull the dog off, D’Amour, who was also bit by the dog, grabbed his gun.

“I just didn’t want my dog to get killed. She’s my girl,” said D’Amour.

Manchester police said D’Amour has a license to carry. The owner of the pit bulls, Adam Philbert, is cooperating with the investigation.

Molly has two large wounds that required staples, but is expected to be OK. D’Amour says Philbert says he would pay for Molly’s vet bills.
