Man dies after deer crashes through windshield in Weston

WESTON, Mass. — A husband, artist and grandfather died Wednesday after a tragic crash in which his vehicle was hit by a deer in Weston.

Police tell Boston 25 News 76-year-old David Lang was driving down Wellesley Street when the deer was launched at his car after being hit by another vehicle.

Boston 25 News reporter Drew Karedes sat down with David's wife Kathleen, who said the sudden death is fitting of his extraordinary legacy.

“It’s sort of the way he lived life in a way just not an armchair person at all, to be part of a freak occurrence is believable with him," she said.

Investigators said David was impaled by the antlers of the deer after it crashed through his windshield.

“It’s hard but it is fitting and I will miss him very much," Kathleen said. “Definitely my confidant, definitely my best friend, definitely the person I argued with more than anyone else."

Kathleen says her husband of 51 years always gave her a run for her money… from the moment they met at Harvard so many years ago. They went sailing the Charles that very day and have been inseparable – until now.

“We’re sort of different personalities, but for some reason we thought the same way even though we would come at it in a different way,” she said.

David leaves behind two children and four grandchildren. His passion as a sculptor, painter, artist and teacher were always an inspiration to his son Jon.

"He had unique friendships with almost everybody he met," Jon said.

David was the head of the art department at Middlesex School in Concord.

His family says his recent work with the Boston Sculptor’s Gallery helped him heal after suffering a stroke last year. Some his sculptures now line the area outside of his Wayland home where his memory remains very much alive.

The driver in the first vehicle was not hurt.
