Man dies a day after he's beaten with brick in Lynn, police say

LYNN, Mass. — A man police say was beaten with a brick in Lynn Sunday morning has died, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.

Police have launched an investigation into the assault they say happened around 1:30 a.m. on Blake Street.

Sergio Sanchez, 39, was walking with a 33-year-old Lynn man when they were assaulted by two other men, police said.

“I heard two guys yelling and screaming at each other,” a Lynn resident who witnessed the attack told Boston 25 News. “I only heard men's voices, you know, couple of drunk guys they're just going to go on their way.”

Police say the younger man called 911 as they were being attacked.

Sanchez was more seriously injured when police said he was hit with a brick.

He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and died Monday morning, the Essex DA said.

“I could see the guy plainly. And I knew, I just knew, he was in real bad shape," the witness said.

No arrests have been made and police have not said whether they know who the suspects are, but they did say the suspects likely didn't know the victims.
