WOBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The man accused of killing a former witness in the trial of James "Whitey" Bulger has been indicted on a murder charge.
Prosecutors said charges for William Camuti, 69, were upgraded from attempted murder to murder Friday.
Camuti is accused of poisoning Stephen Rakes' iced coffee. Rakes was set to testify in James "Whitey" Bulger's racketeering trial, but was dropped from the witness list at the last minute. Just days later he was found dead in a wooded area in Lincoln.
Investigators said Camuti lured Rakes to a McDonalds in Waltham to discuss a business deal. While there, it's alleged that Camuti put two teaspoons of potassium cyanide in Rakes' iced coffee. He then drove around with Rakes in his vehicle for several hours.
Camuti was charged with three counts of attempted murder, misleading police and unlawful disposition of human remains.
